Reminders:

Coaches’ Expectations for Swimmers

- Cap and goggles are required during every swim practice for every swimmer.

- Arrive to practice 5-10 minutes early

- Swimmers are expected to be behind the blocks ready to get in 2 minutes before their designated start time

- Swimmers must have a valid excuse to be late

- Bring a water bottle to every practice (child’s name if it’s not a distinguishable bottle)

- Make sure swimmers are not arriving to practice hungry.

- Swimmers are expected to show respect to coaches and all other swimmers

- Swimmers should stay out of the sand before practice

NOTE: Practice is offered five days a week, but we are aware that swimmers have other activities. Although it is recommended that swimmers practice at least three times a week, it is up to families to decide what works best for them. Please email [email protected] with any days that your child will not attend.

Equipment Needed for Practice

–swim cap

–googles

–towel

–shoes (flops/sandals….)

–filled water bottle

–fins for 9+ (the team has some fins, but not enough pairs and sizes for everyone)

–suit (Appropriate swimwear is required. NO COTTON. Clothing is not an acceptable option because it absorbs water and weighs your swimmer down; this is a safety issue. Clothing will also make learning proper form difficult. Additionally, clothing fibers can affect the pool’s filtration system and chemical balance.) If you are looking for swim shirts, or a more modest swim option for girls, we have some Cuda options available at the Swim Outlet: https://www.swimoutlet.com/collections/creeksidecudas

Code of Swimmer Conduct and Parent Ethics

Our swim team is a fun and safe environment. Please see below for our swimmer and parent expectations. We have a zero tolerance policy for bullying and harassment (verbal and physical). Everyone should keep a positive attitude.

Swimmer Code of Conduct

- Be at practice, meets, and in the water on time

- Listen and follow directions from coaches

- Be polite and considerate to everyone

- Keep your hands, feet, and objects to yourself

- Do not swear or verbally annoy others

- No public displays of affection. (i.e. kissing and fondling boyfriend/girlfriend)

Positive Incentives - Swimmers are rewarded for their appropriate behavior with Cuda Cash, awards, certificates, best times, and a variety of other “kudos."

Negative Referrals - Swimmers who do not behave appropriately at Creekside may expect phone calls home, citations, suspension from practice and meets, and expulsion from the team (forfeiting all paid fees).

Team Safety - Serious disciplinary action will occur for harassment situations. Bullying will not be tolerated. Words, looks, and/or gestures that result in making someone feel uncomfortable or unsafe will be considered harassment. This includes actions and comments aimed toward ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, and physical appearance.

Parent/Guardian Code of Ethics

We would like to thank you for volunteering your time to involve yourself with a very important role in the Cuda Swim Team. A parent/guardian is very often a major influence in a young swimmer’s life. It is often a matter of attitude as well as actions that affect the swimmers. You may choose to take your child’s swimming seriously, but don’t lose your sense of humor and/or sportsmanship. After all, you are setting an example for not only your child, but your child(ren)s teammates as well. Our parents/guardians primary purpose will be to promote sportsmanship, friendship, and volunteerism while remembering that the kids are swimming to have fun.

The parents/guardians will:

- Exhibit sportsmanlike conduct at all practices and swim meets

- Refrain from coaching your own child during practice. You can talk to the coach about the specifics of your child before or after practice, not during.

- Maximize praise and minimize criticism

- Make corrections calmly, not screaming at your child, other swimmers or patrons of the pool

- Not ridicule your child/swimmer nor allow your child/swimmer to tease or taunt other swimmers

- Not yell at the Stroke & Turn judges, coaches, parents, other children, and/or other patrons of the pool

- Maintain self-control at all times

- Make all practices and swim meets fun for everyone

- Not use profanity towards swimmers, coaches, Stroke & Turn judges, and other parents or spectators

- Follow all rules and regulations of the Creekside Cabana and Cabana Swim League

Anyone not abiding by the above Code of Ethics, will be given a warning, or if the action is severe, will be asked to leave the premises and their swimmer(s) removed from the Creekside Cuda Swim Team (forfeiting all paid fees).
